Home Automation Networking Computing
Hello, and welcome to the Vortrax Technology pages.
These pages provide an overview and in some cases a more detailed look at some of the technology I have used. These are my own observations using my own products (no manufacturer sponsorship here!) and may be of use to you.
Home automation means different things to different people, but here is ab over view of some of the devices I have, or am still using.
As my home, and subsequently small office, network grew in size and complexity, the type of network components changed; some of these were good, others less so. My current network uses products from MikroTik® and Netgear®. Wireless networking uses both Apple® and MikroTik components.
These products are discussed in more detail below and include a guide to choosing these components and why I chose the ones I currently use. You can find out more about using these components in a real network by visiting the VXNetWorx project site.
Computers are a ubiquitous tool today and come in three main flavours: Windows®, Apple® Macintosh and Linux. Which you choose may be a personal preference, but each has its strengths and weaknesses. I currently use both Windows® and Apple® PCs and currently no native Linux machines.
Storage is important and the systems I use are also discussed below.
I have used a huge number of application programs over the years (I had my first Windows® PC in 1996) and some have been successful and others haven't!
This is some of the software currently i use:
